May 8th, Part Rob

WoW!! Memorizing the russian dictionary is really paying off BUT it's hard to type in Russian.
I figure I will just stay here in Kazakhstan and program computers.
No Accenture consultants here (yet). They can't afford the overheads!

So it's kind of stinky not being able to see the kid so we went for a walk and will do something else today for the holiday. Ah well... you can't always get what you want.
For those of you wondering about pictures of the kid. We will post them after the adoption court proceedings in a week or so per our agency's recommendation.

Astana is a pretty cool city and there is construction EVERYWHERE. They are building apartments, offices and government buildings round the clock. I think this is why there is so much dust. There is much disturbed and open ground around. Since the ground is also unstable being a former steppe they use alot of cement pavers. That way, when they get a sinkhole they just dig out the pavers, put in some largers crushed rocks then smaller crush aggregate and replace the pavers. When the ground heaves or sinks in the street it's good entertainment. The crazy drivers try to driver through some of the worst holes in the earth and then get stuck.... So yesterday we saw several cars up to their hubs in gravel as compared to ground level. LOL.

Hey for you people arbing tenge vs US dollars please note that when we got here it was 125 tenge=1 dollar now it's only 122=1 dollar...

хороший день!!!

Jen and Rob:

Priviet! (phonetic spelling)

Great to hear your story! It seems the trip is off to a good start & we hope it continues to go well.

Re: name-what is your son's given name? Some families we know kept given names; others incorporated given name as middle name; still others (us) changed altogether.

Beer: Try Baltika (0-9, higher number = greater alcohol content) & Tian Shan (named for mountains surrounding Almaty) among local beers or Karl Balling (German import). I'll have Alli send a more complete list....

I'd love a "scarf" from the local soccer team if you get to a match! Tobol was the team in Kostanai, but I don't remember whether they played an Astana-based club....

Keep blogging! Dasvidanya,

Pat, Alli, Molly & Aidan
